Church in Pellizzano

The church in Pelizzano is a fine example of religious art. It is set in an urban area of considerable historical value, dating back to the late Middle Ages and the Renaissance period, featuring stately homes displaying coat of arms above the their portals.

The church has been subsequently decorated with frescoes (especially by the Baschenis family, from 1477 to 1533). In fact the porch and the entrance wall are full of paintings.

The most valuable elements of the church are the five altars, finely carved and gilded, with their ancient altarpiece. At the top of the left aisle there is the altar of the Disciplines, with a fresco by C. Vallorsa (1571), depicting the local Compagnia dei Battuti. The church features many precious artifacts: reliquaries, wooden gate (1626), Way of the Cross, as well as chalices and processional crosses of great value. Outside the church, dominated by the imposing bell tower, behind a wrought iron railing, there is a Madonna with Child (late medieval work), also called "Madonna degli annegati", much venerated by locals and surrounded by many legends.
